The CoreLink items can be used as a stand-alone growth measure or facilitate vertical scaling of the state tests.

  • Linking studies. To facilitate reporting, use CoreLink Services’ well-articulated scale of measurement, based on the CCSS, to gain reliable and valid information about student performance against the new standards.

  • Customized reporting. As you begin to integrate the CCSS into your instruction and assessments, take advantage of customized reporting options to gauge how students are performing on the new standards, while evaluating their performance against existing state standards.

CoreLink Services is a cost-effective, comprehensive solution to build a bridge from your existing state standards and tests to the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the future national common core assessments.

Ease the transition to the CCSS and national common core assessments

CoreLink Services includes a new item bank that can be implemented as a stand-alone solution or paired with an existing state test to provide a reliable, valid, and comprehensive overview of student performance on the CCSS. In addition, CoreLink Services includes a wide array of professional development and psychometric services to complement the item bank and help you successfully implement the CCSS.

Gain early insight into student proficiency on the CCSS

The item bank features a robust set of items that measure speaking, listening, writing, reading, language, and mathematics. Use it to determine which students are on track to meet the new set of highly rigorous standards, where gaps may exist, and how they can be addressed.

Quickly assess deep disciplinary understanding and higher-order thinking skills

To allow students to demonstrate the depth of knowledge (DOK) required by the CCSS, CoreLink Services’ item types ensure higher order thinking skills can be measured and that partial credit can be given for partial understanding.

For those states and districts not quite ready to implement constructed-response or performance task item types, CoreLink Services offers multiple-choice items that can complement existing testing programs and provide insight into student progress on the CCSS.

Get accurate, reliable data to inform instruction

CoreLink Services provides a valid, reliable item bank that meets rigorous psychometric standards. This ensures results accurately measure student performance relative to the CCSS. In addition, the items are vertically scaled and validated for measuring student growth on the CCSS over time.

Enhance state testing

With quick and informative data showcasing student mastery of the CCSS, CoreLink Services can complement any state testing program. In particular CoreLink Services will allow for:

  • A complete measurement of student performance related to common core domains during the transition to the CCSS framework
A large number of CoreLink items (e.g., twice as many items as are included in operational tests) can be administered in each grade level to measure a broad range of common core state standards. The items will allow for measuring student performance on the aspects of content domains that may not be typically tested by the State tests but will be expected to be taught in a classroom. The matrix administration (similar to NAEP test administration) will allow for the content to be spiraled across multiple forms so that one student takes only a small subset of the test items resulting in limited administration time.

  • Facilitation of operational test form equating
The CoreLink items can serve as external anchor items in the State test equating allowing operational tests to be linked to a larger set of items so that performance on these tests can be interpreted in a broader context. The CoreLink anchor set, administered each year, will allow for 'common item' equating of the new operational forms serving as a link between different forms of operational tests and allowing for release of some or the entire content of the operational tests after operational administration if the State wishes to do so.

  • More reliable and interpretable year-to-year test trend results
Often small anchor sets or anchor sets with inadequate content coverage are used in operational test equating with a goal of reducing the number of common items on multiple operational test forms that may lead to item exposure. Using such anchor sets may result in less reliable year-to-year trends. On the other hand, using a robust CoreLink anchor set that covers a full set common core state standards for test equating purposes will improve reliability of year-to-year performance trend on operational test by reducing error associated with anchor item selection.

  • Development and/or support of vertical scales
Vertical scales in English Language Arts and Mathematics for the State tests can be established by administering CoreLink items at adjacent grade levels. Using items from adjacent grade levels will be possible because CoreLink items overlap in the content and difficulty of all domains across adjacent grades. Alternatively, the State tests can be linked to the existing CoreLink scale taking advantage of the vertical properties of the scale. The underlying CoreLink vertical scales will enable comparisons to be made across grades directly on the State test scales.

  • A capability to build new or augment custom test forms
The CoreLink item bank will support new from development or items from this bank can be used to augment test forms developed by the State. With a support of the existing field test statistics available for all CoreLink items, the State will be able to build new forms not only with a desired content coverage but also with known psychometric properties without additional field testing. In addition, items of specific type and with specific psychometric properties can be selected by the State to fill in potential gaps in their item banks in order to augment the custom test forms.
